Much of Venezuela’s population is poor. The country is heavily indebted to other countries and corruption is rife. Natural disasters are exacerbating social and political problems in Venezuela. At present, the South American country is in a serious political crisis. The humanitarian situation is catastrophic. The violence, persecution, repression, lack of food and medicine, and lack of medical care have caused many Venezuelans to flee the country, causing one of the largest migration crises in Latin America’s recent history.

Inclusion of people with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic

The ASB is supporting people with disabilities and their families in Venezuela, Colombia and in some regions of Latin America in coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. 5,500 people receive direct assistance from the ASB through the project activities. Among the target group are 1,760 people with disabilities and their families, 160 national and municipal officials, 100 key actors in the field of disability, 600 schoolchildren, teachers and members of school communities, and 2,870 members of the general population.
