ASB-Hilfsmissionen in Guatemala

Modernisation of medical equipment for the rehabilitation of seven healthcare facilities

The aim of the project is to help strengthen the healthcare system in Ukraine and ensure access to high-quality, life-saving healthcare, particularly for communities affected by war. ASB is supporting healthcare facilities across the country with medical equipment and reconstruction materials to help improve healthcare for the local population at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. This is crucial in order to counter existing health problems and ensure high-quality healthcare.

The war between Russia and Ukraine since February 2022 has significantly affected the provision of healthcare services in Ukraine: Healthcare facilities have been destroyed, medical staff displaced and the availability of medicine and transport to medical practitioners has been limited. In addition, the mental and physical well-being of the population has deteriorated, meaning that life expectancy is expected to fall. The impact is particularly felt by people with chronic illnesses, disabilities, the elderly, pregnant and breastfeeding women, children and LGBTQIA+ people.

ASB provides healthcare facilities with medical equipment and reconstruction materials to help improve healthcare for the local population.

How the ASB is helping in Ukraine

Provision of medical supplies and construction needs for healthcare facilities

1gelb.png

The ongoing attacks in Ukraine have destroyed or damaged a lot of infrastructure, including medical facilities. However, the damage to buildings is often not the only deficiency that affects the quality of medical care in the long term; many hospitals also lack medical supplies.

The project supplies selected facilities with the materials they need. Clinics had to submit their material requirements to ASB with a letter of confirmation from the local administration before the project began.

The provision of building materials and medical equipment enables the hospitals to carry out building repairs and renovations, while at the same time ensuring that the population receives high-quality medical care using modern medical equipment.

Improving access to medical care

In cooperation with the supported healthcare facilities and local authorities, people are informed about the project and the services offered by the clinics. The aim is to raise awareness of existing services.

In addition, the clinics' capacities in the area of mobile healthcare services are being promoted so that bedridden and palliative patients can also be cared for.

The establishment of a referral system should ensure that hospitals can more easily refer their patients to other doctors for further treatment, so that the best possible care is guaranteed.
