Helping people in Kosovo | ASB Foreign Aid
The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) has been active in the social sector in Kosovo since 1998. It supports the reconstruction of housing and the restoration of social and public infrastructure. The ASB was one of the first aid organisations to return to Kosovo after the cessation of hostilities and began emergency aid for the inhabitants directly. Over the past five years, the ASB has focused much of its activities in Kosovo on strengthening vulnerable and rural households socio-economically.

Women empowerment in Kosovo
It is unacceptable that women in Kosovo, especially in rural areas, are discriminated against. They are denied access to property and resources, the labour market and participation in politics. The ASB is committed to supporting women's organisations in Kosovo, increasing women's participation in decision-making processes, raising awareness of gender equality and promoting cooperation between civil society and the public sector.

United against domestic violence in the Western Balkans

In this way, ASB contributes to regional cooperation and improved safety for victims of domestic violence in the Western Balkans.

Promoting sustainable local reintegration
The INTEGRA project is a key driver of social and economic integration for returnees from EU countries and other vulnerable people in Kosovo. We support 120 beneficiaries in business planning and business management. Furthermore, we provide 100 support packages that will serve as the basis for 100 new business start-ups. Our efforts are also creating 60 jobs in selected existing companies. ASB is training 50 beneficiaries in vocational training. We are also optimising the administration of support programmes in the public sector. Another important focus of the project is establishing five community engagement centres, which serve as contact points for local people. These centres offer opportunities for the active involvement and participation of local communities.

It provides operating equipment for institutions and non-governmental organisations in the partner municipalities and trains officials on the implementation of projects. The ASB is also active in the rebuilding homes and providing urgently needed winter assistance to Roma, Ashkali and Balkan Egyptian communities and internally displaced persons. To protect them from the cold, the ASB supplies firewood for heating and cooking as well as sofa beds. The ASB is supported by the Federal Foreign Office through the financing of annual projects.
