Supporting the Greek authorities | Greece
Together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the ASB provided support at the locations of Diavata, Katsikas, Filippiada, Doliana and Agia Eleni. The ASB helped, for example, with the management of the camps or with the provision of water, toilets and hygiene products. The ASB also advocated for the protection of people and provided support with legal matters, psychological support and childcare. In addition, the ASB created child-friendly rooms and offered language courses.
The project
Since January 2019, the ASB programmes in Greece have been funded by the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Union (DG HOME) in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). DG HOME in Greece supported the Greek government in providing services for 33 camps on the Greek mainland.
How the ASB is helping in Greece
Establishing safe and fair rules
The project established safe and fair rules for the reception and protection of migrants on the Greek mainland. This related to people seeking asylum or who already had international protection status. IOM and the ASB helped the Greek government to better organise and manage all reception structures in the country.
Children and adolescents were extensively supported and their interests promoted
The project included the following activities:
Support for site management, water, provision of sanitation and hygiene, accommodation, provision of toiletries, food and kitchen utensils
Legal advice, psychological and psychosocial support, child protection
Provision of a meet-up group for young people supervised by teaching staff, creating cultural and recreational opportunities for children and young people, offering language and computer courses
