How the ASB is helping in Greece

Preparing for school

In the homework and creative centres, the children and their families received support from various experts, such as teachers, translators, psychologists and social workers. When working with children who cannot go to school, it is very important to prepare them for inclusion in school. In the homework and creative centres, the children were able to gain subject-related knowledge and were also supported on an emotional level.

Versatile support in the homework and creative centres

The programme of homework and creative centres had several important objectives. Firstly, children and young people were to be supported with their homework so that they can achieve better grades and close any gaps in their knowledge. On the other hand, they were also to learn important social skills, for example how to get along well as part of a community and what rights all people have. In particular, the children were taught about democracy, human rights and children’s rights.

The children were also taught how to learn more efficiently and at a faster pace. Finally, children who did not know any Greek were to be offered help with learning the language.
